DXG counts your reps using your phone's camera. This policy explains what the app does with the camera feed, what we store, and — most importantly for the current limited beta — the workout videos and motion data you can choose to share with us so we can improve how accurately DXG counts.
The short version
- Rep counting happens on your device. The camera feed is processed live on your phone to detect your body position and count reps. By default, nothing from the camera leaves your device.
- Sharing for improvement is opt-in. We only receive your motion data or workout videos if you turn on the improvement settings described below. You can turn them off at any time.
- We do not sell your data and do not use your videos or motion data for advertising.
The camera
DXG needs camera access to count reps. While you work out, each frame is analysed on your device to estimate your body's joint positions (a "pose skeleton"), which the counting engine uses to detect reps. In normal use this happens in real time and frames are discarded immediately — they are not recorded, stored, or transmitted.
Beta improvement program (opt-in)
To make rep counting more accurate across different people, lighting, and movements, the beta lets you contribute real examples. There are two separate, independent choices, and both are off by default:
1. Share motion data
If enabled, DXG sends the pose data from your set — the stream of estimated joint positions (no imagery), the reps DXG counted, cadence, form flags, and details like your device and frame rate. If you tell us the count was actually different, we store that correction as a label. This contains no video and no picture of you.
2. Share workout videos
If you separately enable this, DXG records the video of your set and uploads it so we can re-analyse it as our counting technology improves. The video is recorded without audio— the app never requests microphone access. A clear on-screen indicator shows when a set is being recorded for this purpose. Because a video can show your face and body, this is treated as sensitive personal data and is kept private.
We use shared motion data and videos only to evaluate and improve the DXG counting engine. We do not use them for advertising, and we do not sell them or share them with third parties for their own purposes.
What else we store
DXG requires an account (email sign-in). We store the email address you sign in with, your date of birth(collected once, solely to verify you meet the minimum age — see "Children" below), your workout summaries (exercise, reps, dates), and your settings. Rep counting stays on-device; only these summaries sync so your history works across sessions.
Where it is stored
Account data and any shared motion data are stored in our managed database (Neon), and any shared workout videos in encrypted object storage (Cloudflare R2), under access controls that restrict each record to the account that created it. Uploads happen over encrypted connections and, on the app, are queued to send only over an unmetered network.
Retention
Shared workout videos are deleted no later than 90 days after upload, enforced automatically by a storage lifecycle rule. Shared motion data is kept only for as long as needed to improve the counting engine during and shortly after the beta, and is then deleted or reduced to non-identifying motion data. Account and workout data are kept while your account is active.
Your choices and rights
- Keep the camera local: rep counting always runs on your device. Leave the improvement settings off and no camera-derived data — video or motion — ever leaves your phone; only your account and workout summaries sync.
- Turn sharing off any time in Settings; this stops future collection.
- Delete your data: you can delete individual shared sets, delete all your shared captures, or delete your account, which removes your associated videos and motion data.
- Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, or export your data. Contact us to exercise them.
Children
DXG is not available to anyone under 15. We ask for your date of birth when you first sign in and block accounts below the minimum age; the date of birth is used only for this age check. Where your local law sets a higher minimum age for services like DXG, that higher age applies.
Changes
We will update this policy as DXG moves out of beta and will revise the effective date above. Material changes to how we use shared videos or motion data will be communicated in the app.
